A cross-trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Jess Brooks is devoted to providing a creative approach to music education.
Brooks is a Music Education Major and currently studies under Gayle Bisesi, Jen Mather, Bob Rummage, and Doug Beach at Elmhurst College. She has received an Outstanding Improvisation award from the Millikin Jazz Festival and an Outstanding Soloist award from the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival. Brooks is Co-Director of the Women’s Jazz Leadership Initiative at the Jazz Institute of Chicago and works to further the success of female jazz artists in the city. Brooks is the vocalist for the internationally acclaimed Elmhurst College Jazz Band. She has shared the stage with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Andrea Bocelli, Renee Fleming, Doc Severinsen, Linda Eder, and Ryan Truesdell. Her passion for music has led her to perform in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, and across the United States. In addition to a career as a performer, Brooks works at DownBeat Magazine and enjoys learning about Music Business and the rich history of jazz.
Brooks’ passion for education has led her to love Private Teaching. Lessons focus on the development of healthy technique and musical pedagogy, while centering on creating a lifelong love of music.
